ST1100 FAQ

WARNING
Any time you add weight to your bike, the handling WILL be affected. Each bike even of the same model will be affected differently due to your weight, how you pack it, tires, suspension, and your riding style. You need to determine if what you add or change is safe for you.
We make no claim or warranty that adding any of our products is safe for any intended use as we have no control over the operation of the vehicle.

TANKS

Whats the difference between "Filler & No Filler"?
The difference between filler & no filler is the original that Ron made did not have a filler on the tank so it had to back fill from your stock tank. It took a while. So Jim added a filler (cap) on the auxiliary so you can fill each tank separately and quicker.

Two Models
The Vision with mega-lines so you eliminate the cap and fill rapidly from your stock tank.
The standard version with a fill cap.

Line size
"Bigger is better". We were just going to make the Vision with mega-lines but enough of you wrote us that we're still going to offer the cap version with 3/8" fuel line

Why don't you sell a complete kit?
We do now.

What is the basic installation procedure on a ST1100?
We strongly recommend that you have a shop do the installation because you are working with fuel and there's some tight places you'd be working in. If the fuel lines aren't installed, run and secured properly you're sitting on an 11.5 gallon bomb.

This is a very simplified version of the instructions
1. Remove the stock fuel tank, rear of the rear fender, left side cover & saddlebags. Removing the rear wheel gives some additional working space.
2. Drill two holes; one near the bottom of the stock fuel tank and one near the top of the tank. A "Uni-bit" drill is preferred as it won't tear as easily
3. Install bulkhead fittings in the holes you just drilled
4. Install forward end of tank support struts (finger tight)
5. Install auxiliary tank (finger tight)
6. Attach rear end of tank support struts (finger tight)
7. Set the stock fuel tank in place, run the fuel & vent lines, check for leaks & then secure the stock fuel tank
8. Attach wires to the license plate bracket/light and attach the license plate bracket/light to the auxiliary tank
9. Route the wires for the license plate bracket/light thru the auxiliary tank. Attach the wires to your existing tail/brake wires & test lights
10. Secure all bolts
11. Reinstall rear wheel
12. Add fuel & test ride. Recheck for leaks

If ordering the Vision, READ THIS before you order
This is NOT an easy installation as space to run the line at the front of the stock tank is limited. If you don't have reasonable mechanical skills, either have your local shop do it or purchase the fill cap version. A number of owners have very successfully installed their own in about 6 - 8 hours. The "hang up" is trying to visualize where and how the line must run to prevent chafing or pinching. We have changed to a little different style of fitting so there's more angle adjustment available.

MISCELLANEOUS
Do you install?

No, we are fabricators. The difficult part of installation on an ST1100 is drilling and installing the fuel inlet on your existing fuel tank. We suggest you have your local shop do at least that. If you get "stuck" during installation, we will try to assist you.

Why don't you make.........?
See above. We welcome suggestions as we have access to a machine shop and metal forming. Email suggestions for additional products to:
