TANKS How much fuel does the cell hold? Your total capacity will be a little under 11.5 gallons
What's the advantages and disadvantages to having an underhung tank? Advantages 1. Having the weight lower won't affect your center of gravity as much as having it luggage rack or pillion mounted 2. You aren't losing your luggage rack.
Disadvantages 1. You will need a fuel pump. 2. More difficult to install
Line size "Bigger is better". Not really once you have met the requirements of your usage. By keeping the size down; it allows you to run the line more easily and use smaller fittings; less chance of leaks. We use a 3/8" I.D. fuel line because of frictional losses in the line and fittings
What is the basic installation procedure on a Concours? We strongly recommend that you have a shop do the installation because you are working with fuel. If the fuel lines aren't installed, run and secured properly you're sitting on a "bomb".
This is a very simplified version of the instructions 1. Remove the stock fuel tank, rear section of the rear fender, both side covers, seat, rear cowling & saddlebags. If you have the auxiliary luggage rack, remove it. 2. Thread fittings into the cell. 3. Remove turn signals & taillight from the old fender. 4. Wire in a switch for the fuel pump. 5. Slide fuel cell into position. Put bolts in and secure finger tight 6. Attach fuel pump, install stock taillight & turn signals. 7. Drill a hole in your stock tank for the bulkhead fitting. Run the fuel & vent lines, add a little fuel in the cell. Run pump and check for leaks. Secure the stock fuel tank 8. Attach wires to the license plate bracket/light and attach the license plate bracket/light to the auxiliary tank 9. Route the wires for the license plate bracket/light thru the fuel cell. Attach the wires to your existing tail/brake wires & test lights 10. Secure all bolts and replace stock tank, both side covers, seat, rear cowling & saddlebags 11. Add fuel & test ride. Recheck for leaks
MISCELLANEOUS Do you install? No, we are fabricators. The difficult part of installation on a Concours is drilling and installing the fuel inlet on your existing fuel tank. We suggest you have your local shop do at least that. If you get "stuck" during installation, we will try to assist you.
Why don't you make.........? We welcome suggestions as we have access to a machine shop and metal forming. Email suggestions for additional products to: We Listen@sampson-sporttouring.com
